We’ve recently found some software that allows us to display our scan data online! Here is an example of the scan data we collected at the Grade II listed building in Staffordshire.
Potree is a free open-source browser based point cloud renderer. The algorithms that have been applied to reduce the scan data file size and render full coloured data are incredible. The way in which the data is presented almost mimics a cell shaded art style, where the colours fill the model space and is outlined in black to define where the geometry starts/stops.
It is also a great analytical tool where we plan to give our clients a link to their point cloud and let them quickly use the tools within Potree to dissect and analyze. We will still supply them with the point cloud in traditional formats but this is a fantastic tool, where the client can highlight any concerns early on in the project.
