Survey to Supply Point Cloud – Grade II Listed Church

In 2016, SolidPoint were commissioned by Lime Architecture to survey a Grade II listed church in Staffordshire. The building was in a dilapidated state, so all appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) was worn. It looked like the building had been neglected for a number of years as vegetation towered up against the externals of the church. We were given permission to cut back or flatten this so that our Faro x130 3D Laser Scanner had a clear view of the building.

We collected 120+ colour scans over two days onsite. Coloured scans were requested and we felt were important to try and capture the quaint beauty of the stone building and majesty of the stain glass windows.

We were asked to produce 2D elevations as you can see above and our client at Lime Architecture intended to use the Point Cloud collected to create a 3D model in ArchiCAD. If you've read our blogs or spent any time looking at SolidPoint, you will know that we primarily use Revit as a platform for BIM and to produce our 3D model surveys. We were impressed with the model that Lime Architecture has produced in ArchiCAD and are proud to have supplied them with a highly accurate Point Cloud survey. We would ask you take a look at their blog post about this project if you're interested. Lime Architecture Blog
